Today is Father's Day. I hope all those performing that role are having a great day.
My Dad passed away way too soon. When he left this realm, I was already a well-balanced adult, but I still miss his advice and his sense of humor in the face of difficult times.
Thanks to my Dad:
I know how to play chess.
I know how to play poker.
I know how to see situations many moves ahead.
I know how to bluff.
I know being a bully is a bad thing.
I know that initially treating all people with respect is a good thing, no matter their race, religion, or other differences with me.
I know how to fight to defend myself, and to put bullies in their place.
I know the only way to fight is to win. Except maybe with your friends; in some of those cases playing to a draw might do.
I know the actual definition of winning is not always obvious.
I also know what is important is also not always obvious.
I know how to love.
I know how to "shake it off".
I know that good health is a precious commodity.
I know for certain "life isn't fair".
I know that a good dry sense of humor is a stepping stone to good mental health.
I know that none of us get out of here alive.
Thank you Dad!
