Appendix #1 - Towns With Wards
There are 14 Towns in New York State that use the ward system, out of a total of 932 towns.
The details of these 14 towns are listed below. Underlined are significant differences they have with the Town of Blooming Grove New York.
Brookhaven – Suffolk County
531.5 square miles
486,000+ population – second most populous in New York State
Located in central Suffolk County, is the only town in the county that stretches from the North Shore to the South Shore of Long Island. Largest town in New York in terms of total area.
Includes nine villages and 50 hamlets
Six wards, adopted in 2002
Camillus – Onondaga County
35 square miles
Includes three hamlets and one village. Suburb of City of Syracuse
Clarkstown – Rockland County
46.9 square miles
84,187 population (2010 US Census)
Includes 12 hamlets and 3 villages.
Four wards; adopted in 2015
Ellicott – Chautauqua County
30.5 square miles
Includes two villages Borders Chautauqua Lake. Surrounds the City of Jamestown on the east, north and west. Four Wards with two-year terms
Greece – Monroe County
51.4 square miles
Includes six communities (not referred to as hamlets). Suburb of City of Rochester.
Hempstead – Nassau County
191.3 square miles includes 71.4 square miles of water Largest town in NYS; includes 22 villages as well as the majority of the population of the county.
Hyde Park – Dutchess County
39.8 square miles
Includes three hamlets. Suburb of City of Poughkeepsie
New Hartford – Oneida County
25.5 square miles
Includes two hamlets and two villages. Largest suburb of City of Utica
North Hempstead – Nassau County
69.1 square miles
Includes 30 villages and 20 hamlets. Suburb of Queens
Poughkeepsie – Dutchess County
31.2 square miles
Includes nine hamlets and part of one village. Suburb of City of Poughkeepsie
Queensbury – Warren County
